Frequently Asked Questions

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?

Internal Family Systems, or IFS, is a compassionate way of understanding our inner world. It views the personality not as one single thing, but as a collection of 'parts. Like a family of parts living inside you. Some parts might feel anxious, some might be self-critical, and others might try to protect you from pain. At the core of everyone is the 'Self,' which is your natural essence of calmness, curiosity, and courage. In our work, we don’t try to ignore or eliminate your difficult parts; instead, we get to know them with kindness. Many people find great relief in this approach because it shifts the focus from 'what is wrong with me' to 'how can I help these parts of me heal.' This process allows your Self to take the lead, creating a sense of internal peace and wholeness that feels both deeply hopeful and sustainable.

How do I know if IFS is right for me?

IFS is a wonderful fit for anyone who feels at war with themselves or stuck in cycles that are hard to break. It is helpful if you struggle with persistent anxiety, carry deep-seated shame, or are still processing painful trauma from your past. This approach is also for those who simply feel 'fractioned'. Perhaps one part of you wants to move forward while another part is too afraid to try. By approaching these inner parts with warmth and curiosity, I will help you heal the underlying wounds that trigger these feelings. This process allows you to find self-compassion, release emotional burdens, and live with much more clarity and ease.

What can I expect during a session?

Our time together starts with a gentle check-in to see how you are feeling in the moment. We always move at your preferred pace, ensuring you feel supported as we explore your internal world. If anything feels heavy or overwhelming, we will pause and breathe together. My goal is to create a safe space where you lead the way and we only go as far as you are ready to go.

What is EMDR and how can it help?

EMDR is a gentle way to help your brain file away painful memories that feel stuck in the present. During a session, we use rhythmic eye movements or taps to engage both sides of your brain while you briefly focus on a difficult memory. This process helps lower the emotional intensity of the past so it no longer feels overwhelming. To keep you safe and grounded throughout, we always start by building internal resources and calming tools, ensuring you feel supported and in control as we work through your healing journey together.

What is Somatic IFS?

Somatic IFS invites your body into the healing process, recognizing that our emotions aren't just thoughts, they live in our physical selves too. In our work, we might gently notice if a part feels like a tight knot in your chest, a flutter in your stomach, or a change in your breath. By paying attention to these sensations and using soft movements or grounding techniques, we help your nervous system feel safe. This allows you to release long-held tension and find a true, deep sense of inner peace and physical ease.

How long does therapy typically take?

The length of our work together really depends on your unique goals and what you would like to explore. Some clients find that a shorter-term focus of a few months helps them navigate specific challenges or life transitions. Others choose a longer-term path to dive deeper into healing and lasting transformation. I believe in a collaborative approach, so we will regularly check in and talk together about your progress and the pace that feels right for you. My priority is ensuring you feel fully supported throughout your own personal journey of growth.

Are sessions confidential?

Your trust is the foundation of our work, so I prioritize your privacy with the utmost care and professional ethics. Everything you share is held in strict confidence, creating a safe sanctuary for your healing. The only rare exceptions occur if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of child or elder abuse, as my primary commitment is to keep you and our community safe. We will discuss these boundaries together so you can feel completely secure and supported as you open up.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for clients across the state. This allows you to engage in deep therapeutic work from the comfort and privacy of your own space.

Do you work with LGBTQ+ clients?

Absolutely. I am committed to providing an affirming, inclusive space for LGBTQ+ individuals. My practice honors your unique intersections of identity and life experience with sensitivity and respect.
