The IFS-Informed EMDR Path

IFS and EMDR are powerful healing modalities that, when combined, create a synergistic approach to trauma recovery. While EMDR facilitates the processing of distressing memories, IFS provides a compassionate framework for understanding the internal parts of yourself that have been impacted by these experiences. Together, they offer a path to deep, sustainable healing that honors your entire system's wisdom and pace.

How Healing Happens

In our sessions, we lead with curiosity and compassion. IFS therapy allows us to identify the internal 'parts' that may be stuck in traumatic loops. Protectors that keep you on high alert or wounded parts that carry old pain. By acknowledging these parts before starting EMDR, we ensure your internal system feels safe and ready for the processing work ahead.

During EMDR processing, we use bilateral stimulation to help your brain re-file difficult memories. However, unlike traditional EMDR, we stay in constant dialogue with your internal parts. If a protector feels overwhelmed or a part needs to pause, we honor that immediately. This IFS-informed approach prevents the 're-traumatization' that can sometimes occur when moving too fast.

The result is a pacing that respects your body's limits while facilitating deep, neurological change. We move at the speed of safety, ensuring that as traumatic wounds heal, your whole system feels integrated, balanced, and increasingly at peace. You are in charge of the journey; I am here to witness and guide the way.

Benefits of IFS-Informed Care

By integrating an Internal Family Systems lens with EMDR processing, we create a more stable, compassionate, and effective healing environment.

Reduced Overwhelm

Self-leadership ensures that processing trauma doesn't flood your system. We move at the speed of safety, keeping you grounded throughout the journey.

Honoring Protectors

We get permission from the protective parts of your system first, honoring their role. This prevents backlash and creates a collaborative path to healing.

Deep Integration

Healing goes beyond just desensitizing a memory; we reclaim lost parts of yourself, fostering a lasting sense of inner peace and wholeness.
